Michael A. Alesia, Esq.
Michael A. Alesia has been an Illinois licensed attorney since 1991. After graduating from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications, Michael attended the John Marshall Law School. He has represented some of Chicago's most recognized construction companies over the years in contract negotiations and litigation matters and continues to represent owners, developers, general contractors, subcontractors and suppliers in all aspects of their construction business.
Michael began his legal career defending personal injury suits as an insurance defense/construction attorney. After defending premises liability and auto claims for 4 years without a guilty verdict, Michael began to represent injured persons in 1995. Since then, Michael has handled hundreds of injury cases resulting in millions of dollars of verdicts and settlements for his clients. Most renowned is Michael's work in a DeKalb County case involving a school chemistry accident that left 3 students severely injured. Michael settled the case for $2.4 million after surviving the School District's tort immunity based motion for summary judgment.
Michael's construction clients ventured into real estate development and shopping center acquisitions in the early 2000's and the law practice evolved to handle the clients' transactions. Today, Michael's commercial real estate practice accounts for over 50% of the business. Michael handles every aspect of his client's real estate deals including property acquisition, land use issues (zoning and special use petitions and public hearings), leasing, evictions, financing and sales transactions.
Michael also provides general counsel for various businesses including Joe Caputo & Sons Produce, George Gullo Development Company, Lively Construction Company, Cannella corporations, Gateway America, LLC and Armand's Restaurants among others.
Michael is a member of the Northwest Suburban Bar Association and a former Director of Itasca Country Club. Michael was a founding member of the Family Advisory Committee at Lutheran General Hospital. Michael and his wife, Cheryl, have two children, Jack and Natalie. The Alesia Family was twice recognized by the March of Dimes as an Ambassador Family. Michael is a devoted hockey coach for the Renegades Youth Hockey program.
Cheryl A. Alesia, Esq.
Cheryl A. Alesia graduated from John Marshall Law School in 1992 and began practicing bankruptcy law representing debtors in chapter 7 and 13 cases. Cheryl’s practice expanded into civil litigation when she joined Fioretti and Desjardins, Ltd. where she was a Special Assistant Attorney General representing the Illinois Department of Transportation in condemnation proceedings. As Special Assistant Attorney General, Cheryl was lead counsel on numerous jury trials and appeals. Cheryl experience handling IDOT cases opened the door to her representation of property owners in various condemnation proceedings. Cheryl’s litigation practice continued to expand and diversify into mechanics lien litigation, family law and even employment law. Cheryl scored high six-figure jury verdicts in a cases involving sexual harassment and wrongful discharge.
Cheryl’s general civil litigation practice covers a wide range of areas on both state and federal levels. She has successfully briefed and argued before the Illinois Appellate Court and the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals for the Northern District of Illinois.
On a personal side, Cheryl is the mother of two children, an avid runner and enjoys reading. She is a current and founding member of the Advocate Lutheran General Hospital’s NICU Family Advisory Committee, mentoring and counseling NICU families dealing with critically sick infants.
